Synopsis
Gittes, détective privé, reçoit la visite d'une fausse Mme Mulwray, qui lui demande de filer son mari, ingénieur des eaux à Los Angeles. Celui-ci est retrouvé mort, noyé. Gittes s'obstine dans son enquête, malgré les menaces de tueurs professionnels.
